Marion County Commissioner Judy Johnson (D) is grinning because she believes the voters of Marion County have short memories. Judy Johnson nearly lost her bid for reelection to the County Commission, for several reasons - but thanks to the local, biased media, her true track record was never publicly examined. Now, having served nearly eight years as a commissioner,
she thinks she deserves a promotion from the County Commission - to the
Florida House of Representatives.
The following will refresh the memories of Marion County Voters ! Judy Johnson has charged Thousands of Dollars for various travels, (some in Florida, some to other States - including Washington D.C.), under the guise of "Official Business" to the taxpayers of Marion County. To date, she has never provided a full and accurate account of the purpose of these trips, nor has she provided reports concerning the information gathered from these trips. Overall, her trips as an individual exceeds the monies spent by all of the other County Commissioners - COMBINED ! This is a total disregard for the Fiscal Responsibility she claims to believe in - literally, her words do not coincide with her actions. Judy Johnson has continually claimed to support the Rights of Minorities, yet she single handedly dismantled the Blue Ribbon Task Force on Diversity in Marion County. This is another of the inconsistencies her tenure as a County Commissioner has been known for. Her actions are an insult to All Minorities, including the Women of Marion County ! Judy Johnson has claimed to support Responsible Growth Management, yet she voted in opposition to the Concurency issue regarding 66th. This vote has, and will continue to cost the taxpayers of Ocala, and Marion County thousands of dollars. Judy Johnson negotiated a deal for Ten Million Dollars concerning the Utilities for Silver Springs Shores ? when the project was only supposed to cost between Two and Three Million Dollars - the taxpayers of Marion County would like to know Who Profited ! This cost the Residents of Marion County Seven Million Dollars. Judy Johnson has claimed to be a person in support of Law Enforcement and Crime Control, yet she voted against the addition of much needed Deputies for the Marion County Sheriff's Department. This act alone, threatens the very lives of all Marion County residents, including the Elderly, Children, and Poor - the very taxpayers who pay her salary ! Judy Johnson has claimed to be concerned about Ecology, and Water Purity, yet she continued to push for the Garbage Dump at Site R, which would locate Garbage immediately over the Florida Aquifer ? thus destroying one of the largest sources of Pure, Clean, Natural Drinkable Water for Florida Residents. This directly affects the Quality of Life of not only the Residents of Marion County, but all the Residents of the State of Florida - not to mention wasting nearly $ 725,000.00 of Marion County Taxpayers Money ! Judy Johnson has claimed to have a desire to protect our Natural Resources and the Scenic Beauty of Florida - yet she Voted Against the Heritage River Protection. Once again, she has displayed her total disregard for the Future of our State, and chose to destroy the Natural Resources so desperately needed for the Human Race to survive. As a member of the Marion County Commission, one of the Published Items on Judy Johnson's Agenda included Children and Youth ? yet she has done absolutely NOTHING concerning this. She has never proposed Any programs, she has never provided Any resources. This is an insult to the Youth of Marion County, who are left with even fewer avenues to focus their attention, and actually leads to the Vandalism, Drug Use and Gang Activity in Marion County. Judy Johnson voted against the Roof over the Livestock Pavilion, a project which was needed and wanted by several Groups - yet she pushed to build the Dude Ranch off State Road 200, which was an Unneeded, Unnecessary and Unwanted waste of taxpayer's money, and was opposed by the Residents of Marion County - most especially those who live in the 200 Corridor. This is another example of her disdain for the Voice of the Residents of Marion County. During her tenure as a County Commissioner, Judy Johnson courted the Veterans of Marion County in her efforts to continually win Re-Election, yet she opposed the transfer of the Fire station to the City for the Veterans Park ? a project which presented absolutely No financial detriment to Marion County or the City of Ocala. Out of all the Groups of Citizens, it is the Veterans who deserve the Credit for their Service to this Country, and the Sacrifice made to Preserve our Freedom - this action is kick-in -the-teeth to the Veterans of Marion County. As a County Commissioner, Judy Johnson was responsible for the Final Report concerning the Greene Investigation ? yet she has failed to comply. She has been contacted on several occasions by Counsel to provide the Report, and have intentionally disregarded the duty assigned to her. The taxpayers of Marion County deserve to have this final report. This is another example of her continued dereliction of duty ? essentially Nonfeasance in Office ! Judy Johnson has claimed to be concerned with Safety, yet she moved the Fireworks from the McPherson Complex, to the Marion County Fairgrounds ? a location which provides no Fire Safety, no Medical Safety, and inadequate Parking and Driving access. This is a major threat to the safety and welfare of all Marion County Residents who attend the Annual Fireworks, including the Elderly, and Children. Judy Johnson actively sought the Election to President of the Florida Association of Counties, with a term that starts in June of 2000 ? yet she is resigning as a County Commissioner to run for State Representative. This is major conflict of interest, not to mention the violation of faith entrusted to an elected member of the Florida Association of Counties. As a County Commissioner, Judy Johnson gladly and willingly testified on behalf of the Deloy's, through the Sunstrom Law Firm, against Marion County, concerning the Water and Sewer issue. This is a direct violation of her Oath as a Commissioner. Not to mention, a complete Conflict of Interest. Judy Johnson has claimed that "the government" is too big and too controlling - yet she has a history of Micro-managing the County Employees and making Unwarranted Demands on the Marion County Human Resources Department. This is a total inconsistency between her words and actions. Again, Hypocrisy while in Office. Judy Johnson has claimed to believe in and support a Woman's Right to Choose, concerning abortion - yet she eagerly signed a Letter Opposing Dr. Pendergrass and the Abortion Clinic. This is another example of her Hypocrisy in Office as a County Commissioner. Judy Johnson believe the Retired People who choose to live in the beautiful retirement/adult residential communities live in a "Retirement Ghetto" ! This is another example of the disdain Judy Johnson has for the senior segment of our society. These senior citizens are the very people who helped to forge this great nation - which includes serving this country in World War II, and Korea. This is a serious Kick in the Teeth - one that will not be tolerated ! Judy Johnson thinks the voters of Marion County will
forget, yet again, her dismal record in office, and promote her to the
State House. The Marion County Voters Against Judy Johnson will not
let that happen. Your Vote is needed in the Democratic Primary on Tuesday,
September 5th, 2000.
